Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Vocational Education and Training (VET) at St Teresa’s College provides students with practical, industry‑aligned learning experiences that prepare them for work, further training and a successful transition beyond school. VET enables students to develop job ready skills while working towards nationally recognised qualifications that support a wide range of post‑school pathways.
All VET qualifications undertaken by students align with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), the national framework that ensures the quality, consistency and recognition of vocational and educational qualifications across Australia.
VET Pathways at St Teresa's Catholic College
Senior students can access a range of VET qualifications delivered through approved external Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). These programs allow students to:
- Gain practical skills relevant to real workplaces
- Work towards nationally recognised AQF qualifications
- Combine school-based learning with industry‑focused training
- Strengthen pathways to employment, apprenticeships, traineeships or further study
VET delivery may occur through a combination of on‑campus, off‑campus, online or workplace-based learning, depending on the qualification and training provider.
Information about available VET courses and pathways is provided to students and families through the Senior Learning Handbook and Year 10 Subject Selection Handbook, as part of the SET Planning and subject selection processes.
Quality Assurance and Parterships
St Teresa’s College is committed to ensuring that all VET programs offered to students meet high standards of quality and relevance. All third-party training providers engaged by the College are quality assured through the Queensland Government’s Skills Assure Supplier (SAS) framework, which provides confidence that training is delivered by approved providers and aligned to industry needs and employment outcomes.
This rigorous quality assurance process ensures that students and families can have confidence in the integrity, value and recognition of all VET qualifications undertaken.
School based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs)
School based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBATs) provide senior students, typically in Years 11 and 12, with the opportunity to combine paid employment, nationally recognised training and senior secondary schooling.
Through a SBAT, students can:
- Work with an employer while completing their senior studies
- Train towards a nationally recognised AQF qualification
- Develop real-world skills in an authentic workplace environment
- Transition smoothly from school into fulltime employment, further training or an apprenticeship
SBATs are a powerful pathway for students seeking a practical, employment focused senior schooling experience, while still achieving their Queensland Certificate of Education.
Vocational Education and Training - Programs with Purpose

Whether students are preparing for tertiary study, further vocational training, an apprenticeship or direct entry into the workforce, VET at St Teresa’s provides meaningful opportunities for success.
